Accomplishments back to top
Expand All Panels- Information Systems Planning
- A health care organization decided to improve its "systems capabilities." Affecting all areas of operations, we helped leadership guide the management team through a series of steps and initiatives culminating in a successful selection of new technology solutions. Later, implementation oversight services helped to ensure realization of the benefits envisioned by the team.
- Due Diligence
- An investment firm was considering a significant position in a company highly dependent on technology. Under tight deadline and with limited resources, an IT-focused due diligence evaluation was conducted, documented and delivered on time. The investment proceeded.
- ERP Systems
- When faced with aging financial and HR systems, a large multi-national's CEO turned to us for advice and leadership. We examined the array of existing systems, identified alternatives, aligned internal factions, and "sold" the solution to top management. A multi-year contract was negotiated with a leading ERP solutions provider and conversion paths established. Subject-matter stakeholders were trained, and took over implementation. Oversight of the changeover was conducted during the first year.
- Oversight Services
- Organizations retaining vendors or external consultants to implement systems are often captive to the outside firm's methods. Competent, experienced oversight has assured success and mitigated risks associated with the operational, technical and financial costs of systems changeovers. Compass provides such senior leadership and oversight routinely in many situations for business and health care systems.
- Systems Selection
- A health care organization decided to modernize a business unit representing about 2/3 of their total operation. Included was a completely new system, with many newer and advanced functions such as voice and optical character recognition technologies. A vendor universe was constructed; likely candidates filtered, and targets interviewed. Proposals and presentations were entertained, followed by demonstrations. Two finalists competed for pricing and contract terms. The entire process took less than 90 days, resulting in successful, timely implementation of a much-needed new system.
- Process Engineering
- New owners decided to modernize processes in a recently-acquired business. The operation employs loyal, hardworking people who were stuck doing work the same way they did it 20 years ago. All workflows in the entire operation were openly examined and discussed with stakeholders. Process workflow diagrams were developed, and after review with key personnel, were examined for opportunities. New workflows were "invented" through collaboration. "As-is" processes either were eliminated or evolved into new work methods. Labor-related savings in excess of 20% are being generated.
- Strategic Planning
- Assisting a growing company with its annual planning process resulted in close alignment of business strategies, technology plans and investments, staff requirements, and Board expectations. Close collaboration between Compass and the Company's Chairman, CEO, CFO, and IT staff resulted in a highly successful vision for the future.
- Project Management
- A service company, conducting a multi-year series of changes affecting organization, process, technology, and personnel enlisted us to establish a project management office (PMO) and to provide soft leadership alongside their other key leaders and managers. Collaboration, counsel, and courage ruled the day, as the program came to life, proceeded, and is now in its third year of four.
- Crisis Implementation
- A service company employing 19,500, had a 15 year-old payroll system on its last legs. The CEO and CFO requested that we implement their chosen replacement system and go live for all employees in 90 days. This had never been done with the vendor's package before, but the challenge was accepted. A PMO was established, staffed and equipped. Two outside firms provided technical expertise where needed, under the control of a single Project Manager/Owner. All 19,500 employees received accurate paychecks on schedule and on time. The system is still in use today; in fact, the company now uses the entire suite of applications.
- Technology Solution Packaging
- A services company partners with a technology firm to deliver a joint solution to mutual customers. Neither company realizes that an integrated solution would meet the needs of more customers and sell more successfully. Compass provided counsel to reach a decision; advised the parties as a way of beginning development of an integrated offering and then led much of the work to deliver the ultimate solution to the market.
